The week of Valentine's day, here are 8 things our family is in love with:

1. CUTE HAIR For Valentine's Day, did 3 heads of hair in hearts using a tutorial from a mom hair blog. I became progressively better at this trick with each head. This is head #3.

2. OUR DINING ROOM When we built our house, lots of people tried to talk us out of having a dining room. They told us that the dining room was dying. I am glad we kept it alive for our family. We celebrated Valentine's with a family dinner. We gave the each girl a Valentine's box with new socks inside. It said, "Someday you're going to meet a Valentine that will knock your socks off. Until then, thanks for spending Valentine's with us."

3. VIOLET THE VIOLIN Anna out grew her first violin and this week we made a trip to Charles Lui for a new one. She kissed "Violet" the violin and "Carson" the bow goodbye before she gave it to the violin maker. She decided to also call her new violin "Violet" just "for the memories." She practices 30 minutes with me each day. It is not easy (for me.) I keep looking at the clock and the hands can move incredibly slow. Anna greets me with a bow at the start and the end of each practice session. She is taking this pretty seriously.

4. BOBBY FLAY The secretaries at Scott's work have a once a month birthday celebration at the law firm. The attorneys eat plenty and the secretaries typically bring all the food. Scott felt bad about this imbalance and started out contributing a box of crackers or some grated cheese. One month he went crazy and brought an asparagus salad from Scott's patron chef Bobby Flay. It was a hit and now--a request.

5. FAMILY HISTORY My mom and dad has us over for Sunday dinner. Mom has been cleaning out Grandma Staker's house and showed us Great Grandma Orgill's and Grandma Staker's wedding dresses. The girls looked at them with appropriate reverence and Dad talked about the greatness of the women that wore those petite gowns.

6. COOL ICE SHOWS THAT CELEBRATE THE OLYMPICS Ten years ago, we were in serious mourning after the 9/11 attacks. I was pregnant with Sarah and Lauren went to kindergarten every afternoon. In mid February, I pushed little Lisey in the jogging stroller over to the elementary school so we could watch the Olympic torch go by. Last night, we went to an Olympic Ice Show commemorating the 10 anniversary of the 2002 Olympics.

7. MITT Contrary to the report in the Tribune this morning, Mitt Romney came to the ice show and stayed the entire time. He said not one word about politics. I couldn't help but wonder if he was thinking, "These ice skaters are good, but I really have a lot to do."
8. SCIENCE Elise is going to the state science fair for her work on "Gender and Art." She tested to see if girls are better artists than boys. She had volunteers from her class draw pictures a cat, a flower and mountains and her art teacher make the ratings. The girls tested higher. Scott and her grandpa questioned her sample selection on this one, but the judges at the science fair thought it was the tops. Our school has never done a science fair before. I'm curious to see what the state fair will be like.

Pretty amazing week! The heart braid is unbelievable. The wedding dress is exquisite-- and looks like it would fit a 9 year old. Congratulations to Elise on a great science project.
Carrie what a busy week you had. What is amazing you never mentioned once that your family took turns being sick. That is how you do it, you don't focus on the bad just the good.
Greg and I have a lot of questions about Elise's science fair exhibit. A lot. And the heart braid turned out awesome.
Just FYI - I kind of love these week recaps. I love them.
